Hi, I’m a very special pup who has been through some things that made the world feel a little scary. ❤️ Because of my past, I may need more time than other dogs to understand that people can be kind and that I am finally safe. Sudden movements, loud noises, unfamiliar people, certain objects or even someone reaching out to pet me may frighten me. When I’m scared, I might flinch, cower, freeze, hide, avoid eye contact, have a potty accident, bark or growl because I don’t know what else to do.
One of the most important things to know about me is that when I get frightened, my instinct may be to RUN. I may try to bolt through an open door, slip out of a collar, escape from a yard or find somewhere to hide. I’m not trying to leave you—I’m scared and trying to find a place that feels safe. Because of this, I may be a flight risk, especially while I’m getting comfortable in my new home. My new family will need to be extra careful with doors, gates, yards, collars, harnesses and leashes to keep me safe.
I may not run up and give you kisses the first time we meet, and that’s okay! 🐾 Please don’t force me to be held, hugged or petted before I’m ready. The best way to win my heart is to give me space and let me come to you. Every little step is a big accomplishment for me—the first time I take a treat from your hand, wag my tail when you walk into the room, choose to sit beside you or finally ask you for a cuddle will be something worth celebrating.
Underneath all that fear is a dog who deserves to learn just how wonderful being loved can be. With patience, consistency, kindness and time, I can learn that hands can be gentle, homes can be safe and people can be my very best friends. ❤️
Please do your research on fearful and previously abused/traumatized rescue dogs before making an appointment to meet me. I need someone who understands that earning my trust may take time—but when I finally give you my heart, it will make every tiny step along the way worth it. 🐾
