Adoption Event Manager

I have had pairs of rescue dogs all my life. It’s not only dogs’ wonderful qualities that draw me to them. I’ve seen firsthand how much dogs improve families’ lives. These wonderful creatures lift moods, teach responsibility, help reduce stress, promote socialization with neighbors, and so much more. Dogs just make us better humans. By working as an Amazing Dogs event manager, every two weeks, I get to see hopeful dog owners begin new adventures in love and connection. What a gift!

Adopt a Dog in San Marcos from the Region’s Most Reputable Organization

In San Marcos, you can plan entire days around your dog, from organized meetups to beach runs and hikes to dog park visits to dog-friendly coffee outings. If you adopt a dog in San Marcos, you’re beginning a new adventure that will get you outdoors, exploring new restaurants and shops, and joining social opportunities.

San Marcos’s abundance of dog-friendly parks, trails, and restaurant patios are throughout our compact, easy-to-navigate city. The city itself has multiple designated off-leash dog parks—Hollandia, Montiel, San Elijo Hills, and Sunset Park—many of which include separate areas for small and large dogs, shade, water fountains, and benches so both dogs and humans can relax.

If your dog prefers leashed walks to dog parks, San Marcos and nearby Vista, Escondido, and San Elijo Hills offer a long list of maintained, dog-friendly trails and lake loops like Discovery Lake, Double Peak, Jack’s Pond, Lake Hodges, and Twin Oaks Valley, giving you easy options from quick paved loops to more strenuous hikes. San Marcos’s city planners made it simple to combine a walk, a dog park visit, and a meal out without having to leave your pup at home (always be aware of high temperatures and take water for the dog with you). Clearly, with all of these options, anyone who wants to adopt a dog in San Marcos will have no shortage of ways to involve him or her in their life!

San Marcos Pack Walks

San Diego Ladies HIking and Walking with Dogs offers pack walks for from 10 -12 in a range of North County Inland neighborhoods.

With these options, you may have set out to adopt a dog in San Marcos but find yourself a whole new pack of friends!

San Marcos Dog Parks

These three popular San Marcos dog parks will keep your fur baby sniffing, running, and socializing:

Sunset Park Dog Park

909 Puesta del Sol, San Marcos, CA 92078

Sunset Park includes a dedicated dog park area within a larger community park that also has play equipment, sports facilities, disc golf, and walking paths. It is popular with local dog owners thanks to its open green space, multiuse layout, and generally family- and pet-friendly atmosphere.

Montiel Park

2290 Montiel Road, San Marcos, CA 92069

Montiel Dog Park at Montiel Park in San Marcos is a fully fenced off-leash area where dogs can run and socialize freely in an open field setting. The park offers seating and some shaded spots for owners, plus nearby restrooms and other park amenities, making it a convenient everyday stop for local dog owners.

Hollandia Park Dog Area

12 Mission Hills Court, San Marcos, CA 92069

Hollandia Park features a designated dog area alongside lit ball and soccer fields, a horseshoe court, picnic shelter, skate park, and walking paths. The combination of a dog park, sports facilities, and good parking makes it a convenient spot if you want to exercise your dog and also enjoy the surrounding park amenities.

Lakeview Park (Dog-Friendly Walking)

Lakeview Park does not list a fenced dog park, but it is dog-friendly and is commonly used by locals to walk dogs around the lake loop. It offers lakeside paths, picnic tables, and playground areas, making it a good option if your dog does well on-leash walks rather than needing an off-leash run.
