Hi, my name is Alison
I came from a hoarding situation, which means I’m learning how to be a loved family dog for the very first time. ❤️ I may have spent most of my life surrounded by lots of other dogs with very little one-on-one attention from people, so this big new world can be pretty scary! Things you may not think twice about—leashes, doorways, stairs, cars, TVs, vacuums, slippery floors, loud noises, being picked up or even a hand reaching toward me—may be completely new to me.
When I get scared, my first instinct may be to run away, hide, freeze or find the smallest place I can squeeze into. I can also be a flight risk, especially while I’m adjusting, so keeping me securely leashed and making sure doors, gates and yards are secure will be extremely important. I may not know how to walk on a leash yet, I may have potty accidents, and I might feel much more comfortable with other dogs than I do with people because dogs are what I know best. A confident doggy friend may even help show me that people and home life aren’t so scary.
Please don’t mistake my fear for stubbornness or think I don’t want your love. I just haven’t learned how wonderful being someone’s dog can be yet. My progress may come in tiny steps—taking a treat from your hand, walking through a doorway, sleeping on a dog bed or finally coming over for a little cuddle—but those tiny steps are HUGE victories for me. 🐾
I need a special person who is patient, gentle, understanding and willing to let me learn at my own pace. Please research hoarding dogs and the extra care we may need before making an appointment to meet me. If you’re willing to give me the time, security and love I need, watching me discover that the world can be a safe and happy place may be one of the most rewarding journeys we take together. ❤️
