About the Breed
The term “pit bull” covers five similar yet distinct types of strong, muscular dogs: American bullies, American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers, American bulldogs, or a mix. Overall, these dogs are loyal, playful, good-natured, and affectionate with their families. Pitties need socialization, training, and exercise. Prone to separation anxiety, they thrive in a home where people are around. Having a high prey drive, they may not get along with other dogs.
Staffordshire bull terriers were used in 19th-century dogfighting, and sadly, today some still face a negative perception. Make sure to check local legislation and rental agreements to ensure pit bulls aren’t banned from your community.
