The lovable “Lab” originated with our neighbors to the north in Newfoundland (not Labrador) as a water dog. It later moved to the U.K., excelling at hunting and retrieving. Known for their intelligence, friendliness, and companionship, they are often service or therapy dogs. Many work in search and rescue or in drug- or explosive-detection roles.
Energetic by nature, they thrive with activity and mental stimulation, relishing time with active pet parents who are up for a good run or a game of fetch. Involvement in regular activities is a plus. Loyal and even-tempered, they make a great family dog. When socialized early, they can join a multi-pet household and, with proper introductions, are great with kids. Prone to seasonal shedding, they require regular brushing.
