Meaning “badger dog” in German, these small hunting hounds with their long bodies and short legs were at ease flushing out and chasing burrowing critters. They may burrow under blankets or pillows, creating a warm den of comfort and safety, or in dirt for a cooldown.
They can be vocal, so training is key, as well as giving attention and providing bursts of exercise, especially for life in smaller spaces. Smart but strong-willed, they require patience and consistency in training. They may do better around older children unless they are introduced as a pup. Devoted to their people, they are playful, loving, and yet independent.
