Originally a rabbit-hunting dog in England, this pup is still a strong scent hound eager to take you on a “sniffing” walk. You’ll need good leash control. Exercise is important to calm the energy, so an hour of exercise per day is optimal, be it a couple of walks or a trip to the dog park. As a hunter, they can be vocal—boredom or separation anxiety will bring the howl. A bit challenging to train due to their strong will, make it fun and interesting.
Great family dogs, and being pack hounds, they usually do well with other dogs when introduced early. Craving companionship, this pup is not the best choice if you are away from home, leaving them alone. Of course, the most famous Beagle is Snoopy (hang on), and they have a presence in the White House with President LBJ!
