Adopt a dog at one of our dog adoption events in Tustin

Tustin sits right in the middle of Orange County’s dog-friendly cluster, close enough to Irvine, Santa Ana, and the coast that a dog owner here has options in every direction, without giving up a walkable, small-town feel at home.

🐶 Dog-friendly restaurants (Tustin + nearby)

Tustin has a solid base of patio spots, including Citrus Cafe, Zinc Cafe & Market, and Hopdoddy, which welcomes dogs of all sizes and even hands out housemade treats. A short drive gets you to Lazy Dog Restaurant in Irvine, designed around dogs from the ground up, with its own dog menu. Overall vibe: casual, patio-first dining is easy to find without leaving the immediate area.

🌳 Parks, trails, and outdoor spots

Peters Canyon Regional Park and the Tustin Branch Trail give dog owners miles of walkable, shaded trail right in town, and the West Irvine Trail/Peters Canyon Bikeway connects out to a broader regional trail network.

🦮 Best dog parks

  • Central Bark (Irvine, roughly 10 minutes away): A large, well-known off-leash park with separate sections for big and small dogs.
  • Costa Mesa Bark Park (roughly 15 minutes away): A spacious off-leash park with shade, lighting, and regular community events.
  • Peters Canyon South Trailhead: On-leash, but a lovely shaded spot for a slower walk close to home.

🌊 Beaches (huge perk of this area)

  • Huntington Dog Beach (roughly 20 minutes away): One of the only off-leash beaches in California.
  • Newport Beach: Leashed dogs allowed during off-hours, before 10 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m.

What’s unique about the dog scene here

Tustin gives you small-town walkability without cutting you off from Orange County’s bigger dog infrastructure.

Nearby areas worth knowing: Irvine, roughly 10 minutes away, is a clean, planned city with strong dog infrastructure and pet-friendly shopping at Irvine Spectrum. Santa Ana, roughly 10 minutes away, has 40 or more dog-friendly restaurants with patios. Costa Mesa, roughly 15 minutes away, blends dog parks with a walkable, social patio scene. Huntington Beach, roughly 20 minutes away, is home to one of SoCal’s only off-leash dog beaches.

šŸ’” Big picture

Tustin’s location puts dog owners within a short drive of off-leash beaches, well-kept dog parks, and a strong patio dining scene, while keeping day-to-day life close and walkable.

From the time I was a little girl, I’ve always been obsessed with dogs. My parents were big dog lovers, and that passion naturally passed on to me. When I got married, one of the biggest tests was introducing my husband to my two dogs—and he passed with flying colors. He loved them just as much as I did.

Over the 25 years we’ve been married, we’ve had more than 12 dogs, raising them from puppies through every stage of their lives. There has always been a small ā€œtribeā€ of dogs in our home—honestly, the more chaos, the better.

One day, I attended an event hosted by Amazing Dogs and was immediately drawn in. The volunteers were incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely loving toward every dog there. I asked if I could start volunteering, and from my very first day, I was hooked. I have been with the rescue for 2 years and am now the director of events.

There’s nothing like seeing these dogs get a second chance at life, especially when we receive photos showing how happy they are in their new homes. I also love watching the co-founders interact with the dogs—the bond is undeniable. You can clearly see how deeply the dogs love them and how much they care in return. Their top—and only—priority is making sure every dog finds a loving forever home.

I love working events at Petco—it’s my chance to connect with people in the community and learn more about why they want to adopt and what kind of dog they’re looking for. I get to understand their lifestyle, work schedule, and home environment so I can help match them with a dog that truly fits.

At Amazing Dogs, we know firsthand that bringing a dog into your life is a big, life-changing commitment, and we don’t take that lightly. Our goal is to find every dog a forever home—and to help each adopter find a dog they absolutely fall in love with. Dogs are family and making the right match matters.

Petco has been an incredible partner to work with. Their managers and staff go above and beyond to support not just our team, but our adopters as well. They’re highly knowledgeable about their products and always ready to help ensure new pet parents have everything they need to bring their pup home successfully.
