Ocean Beach is home to one of the most famous dog beaches in the country, and it’s about a 10-minute drive to our adoption events in San Diego. That makes it easy for Ocean Beach residents to find their new best friend at one of our events.

Our San Diego adoption events at Petco on Sports Arena Blvd are the closest option for Ocean Beach adopters. Once you find a dog you’re interested in on our available dogs page, you can reserve a spot to meet them at our next San Diego event.
Dog-friendly Ocean Beach
Few neighborhoods are built around dogs the way OB is. Dog Beach, at the north end of Ocean Beach near Voltaire Street, was established in 1972 as one of the first official off-leash beaches in the country, and dogs can run free there 24 hours a day. The city also maintains an off-leash dog park on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard between Nimitz and West Point Loma, and the San Diego River bike path that borders Dog Beach is a good spot for a leashed walk.
Patio dining is easy to find too. Newport Avenue and Voltaire Street have plenty of dog-friendly spots, including Hodad’s, OB Noodle House, and Voltaire Beach House, which even has a menu just for dogs. One thing worth knowing: the leash law still applies outside Dog Beach, including along Newport Avenue and near the pier.
