Adopt a dog at one of our dog adoption events near Mission Beach
Mission Beach is a lively beachfront neighborhood tucked between the Pacific and Mission Bay, and it’s about a 15-minute drive to our adoption events in San Diego. That makes it easy for Mission Beach residents to find their new best friend at one of our events.
Getting to an adoption event
Our San Diego adoption events at Petco on Sports Arena Blvd are the closest option for Mission Beach adopters. Once you find a dog you’re interested in on our available dogs page, you can reserve a spot to meet them at our next San Diego event.
Dog-friendly Mission Beach
Mission Beach is a great place to live with a dog, as long as you know the local rules. Dogs are allowed at Fiesta Island in Mission Bay, and most of the island’s 470 acres is an off-leash dog park, with sand, shoreline, and plenty of room to run. There’s also a dedicated fenced area for owners who want extra security, which is handy for dogs still learning recall.
For everyday walks, Ocean Front Walk and the beach are open to leashed dogs only during limited hours, and dogs aren’t allowed on the beach, boardwalk, or adjacent parks during the busy part of the day. The leashed-dog window is generally before 9 a.m. and again in the evening, so early mornings and sunsets are the best times for a stroll. The restrictions also extend around Mission Bay’s boardwalk and grass parks, so check the posted signs before heading out.
