La Jolla is a coastal neighborhood known for its cove, bluffs, and beaches, and it’s about a 20-minute drive to our adoption events in San Diego. That makes it easy for La Jolla residents to find their new best friend at one of our events.
Getting to an adoption event
Our San Diego adoption events at Petco on Sports Arena Blvd are the closest option for La Jolla adopters. Once you find a dog you’re interested in on our available dogs page, you can reserve a spot to meet them at our next San Diego event.
Dog-friendly La Jolla
La Jolla has scenic walks for leashed dogs. Ellen Browning Scripps Park, the grassy park overlooking La Jolla Cove, and the Coast Walk Trail along the bluffs are both open to leashed dogs, and they make for one of the area’s best views. La Jolla Shores Beach and the adjoining Kellogg Park are also open to leashed dogs during limited hours: before 9 a.m. and again in the evening, after 6 p.m. from April through October and after 4 p.m. from November through March. For off-leash play, Capehart Dog Park in Pacific Beach has separate enclosed areas for large and small dogs, and Fiesta Island in Mission Bay is a short drive away.
Patio dining is easy to find too. Shorehouse Kitchen near the Shores has a pet-friendly patio with water bowls and treats, and it has a dog menu of its own. The Cottage welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables for breakfast and lunch, and Barbarella is a pet-friendly spot just a few blocks from the beach. One thing worth knowing: when walking near the cove, keep your dog away from the wildlife, including the seals and sea lions.
